NSA Account Transition FAQs
1. Why is my storage company changing to Public Storage?
Public Storage will now operate your storage facility following its acquisition of NSA. We are excited to welcome you to the Public Storage family and are working to make the transition as smooth as possible so you can continue using your storage space with minimal disruption.
2. How do I log in to my new Public Storage account?
You will need to create a new online account with Public Storage.
- You will receive a welcome email with a link to set up your new account.
- To create your account, follow the prompts using your email address and create a password.
- Once your account is created, you can download the Public Storage App on your Apple or Google device from the app store to access your unit information, pay bills instantly, get support and more.
3. Will my monthly rent change?
No. Your current rent will remain the same during the transition. You will receive at least 30 days notice of any future rent changes.
4. Will I have to set up AutoPay again?
Your AutoPay information may take some time to transfer to your new Public Storage account. After you complete your account setup, sign in to review your payment information and add or update your AutoPay settings to help avoid any delays in payment.
5. Will my gate code still work at my location?
In most cases, you can continue using your existing gate code. If your gate code changes as part of the transition, you'll be able to find your current gate code in the Public Storage app after you complete your account setup.
6. Can I still access my unit during the same hours?
All acquired properties will transition to the Public Storage standard access hours. You can verify your property hours in the app or online account.
7. Do I need a new lock for my storage unit?
No. Your existing lock, key, and unit setup will remain the same.
8. What happens to my existing rental agreement?
You will need to sign a new rental agreement through your Public Storage online account.
- After creating your login and accessing your account, you’ll see a red banner with a link to complete your rental agreement.
- The easy online process will guide you through the required steps to complete the agreement.
9. Is my stored property still covered by insurance?
Public Storage requires customers to maintain insurance on the items stored in their unit. Depending on your state and current coverage, you may be enrolled in the Orange Door Storage Insurance Program or asked to provide proof of alternative coverage. Additional information will be provided as part of your transition to Public Storage.

For immediate assistance, contact a Public Storage specialist at 1-800-742-8048.
11. How do I move out of my unit?
To start your move-out process, please let us know at least 7 days before your move-out date. Then you must:
- Empty and clean your space.
- Remove and keep your lock.
12. How do I change my unit size?
Visit your Public Storage facility to speak with a property manager or call a Public Storage specialist at 1-800-742-8048. Pricing may change. Monthly rates and fees vary by location and unit size. We'll make sure you understand all costs before we finalize your transfer.
13. Will my account number change?
Yes, you will be given a new account number.
14. Will I still receive the same billing notices and reminders?
Yes, you will receive the same notifications.
15. What should I do if I haven’t received transition information?
Call a Public Storage specialist at 1-800-742-8048.
16. Do I need to visit the office during the transition?
In most cases, the transition does not require an office visit. You will receive a welcome email with specific details about the transition.
17. Will my due date change?
All Public Storage accounts are billed on the first of the month, so due dates that fall on a different day will be updated accordingly.
18. How do I access my account using the app?
Download the Public Storage App to access your units, pay bills instantly, get support, and more.
19. What happens to my existing balance or credits?
When the transition takes place, your current balance, along with any credits or charges, will carry over to your Public Storage account.
20. Will I still see the same property manager I have seen in the past?
Whether it is new or existing personnel, all Public Storage property managers are here to assist you on-site.
21. Can I opt out or change my insurance provider?
Public Storage requires customers to maintain insurance or property protection coverage on the items stored in their unit.
The Orange Door Storage Insurance Program is one coverage option available to customers. Customers may also satisfy the insurance requirement by providing proof of qualifying alternative coverage, subject to applicable state requirements.
If you are enrolled in the Orange Door Storage Insurance Program and later obtain alternative qualifying coverage, you may cancel Orange Door through your online account, the Public Storage app, or by contacting Customer Care.
